A brief History

Rotary club of Jinja was chartered on 16th November 1964, and became the third Rotary club in Uganda after the Rotary clubs of Kampala and Mbale. The charter President was Rotarian Sylvester Wanje, who was greatly involved in keeping the the club going during the bad years of the 1970s. Since 1978, club membership has grown steadily each year.

The club is active in the fields of literacy, clean water of and health for the local community. Rotary club of Jinja won the District 9200 attendance Trophy many times in the last 20 years, in addition to several other trophies. The club has also produced 4 Assistant Governors, and has organized several other Rotary Clubs in Uganda.
